Country Context
While India is a place of immense diversity and economic progress, significant development challenges remain for many communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas. It is the world’s most populous democracy, home to more than 1.4 billion people, and yet, poverty, unequal access to essential services, and gaps in infrastructure continue to affect millions, through limited access to clean water, healthcare, education, and stable livelihoods.
On top of these challenges, climate-related pressures, including drought, flooding, and extreme heat, put further strain on vulnerable communities by disrupting agriculture, livelihoods, and access to safe water. Children, women, and low-income families are often disproportionately affected, facing higher risks of malnutrition, interrupted education, and poor health.
Our Work in India
Human Appeal delivers seasonal support to vulnerable families in India, including through Qurbani distributions that provide nutritious meat to families facing food insecurity. We have also worked to improve access to clean water, strengthen food security, and support communities through practical interventions that help build healthier and more stable futures. This has included providing sustainable clean water solutions in underserved rural communities through the installation of deep tube wells. This work was supported by the establishment of community-level committees and training to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.
